The St. Regis Venice - A Full Review
Marriott’s website.
Venice is a city filled with iconic hotels, but few carry the same reputation and presence as The St. Regis Venice. After spending three nights at the hotel, we had the chance to experience it firsthand, from arrival by boat to the small details that shape a luxury stay:
The Property
The St. Regis Venice is easily one of the most iconic hotels in the city, and its location alone already sets it apart. Sitting directly on the Grand Canal, just a short walk from Piazza San Marco and surrounded by some of the best shopping in Venice, it’s hard to find a more convenient and impressive base.
One of the first things that stands out is the size of the property. Venice is known for smaller, more intimate hotels, but this one feels much more expansive. It’s spread across multiple historic buildings, which gives it a more open and airy feel compared to many other luxury options in the city.
Arrival to the hotel is typically by boat, which is the most seamless way to reach it from the airport or train station. Once you arrive at the hotel’s pier, you’re led through a long, elegant corridor that takes you directly to the concierge and check-in area.
The hotel features one main restaurant and two bars, along with 124 guestrooms and 39 suites. There is also a spa, a hair salon, and a gym available for guests.

The Room
We were upgraded on arrival to an Astor Suite, which was a great start to the stay. The suite is elegant and very spacious by Venice standards. It’s not a traditional suite with separate living and sleeping areas, but rather one large open space that feels comfortable and well designed. The bathroom is also generously sized, and small touches like fresh flowers in the room, a handwritten welcome note, and typical Venetian cookies add a refined and thoughtful touch on arrival.
Our room wasn’t ready at the official check-in time, but this was handled very well. The manager personally apologized and arranged a complimentary one-hour private boat tour through Venice, which turned what could have been a negative first impression into a genuinely memorable moment.

The Good
Service at the front desk and concierge was consistently strong throughout the stay. The team was welcoming, efficient, and always willing to help with recommendations and arrangements, which made a noticeable difference when navigating a city like Venice.
The hotel also offers a few experiences that add to the overall stay. One of the highlights is the daily champagne sabering ritual at 5pm, followed by a tasting, which is a nice touch and gives the property a bit more personality. We also reserved a table for drinks at one of the hotel’s bar overlooking the Grand Canal, and this ended up being one of the best moments of the stay. The setting is beautiful, and the service there was excellent from start to finish.
Breakfast was one of the highlights of the stay. There’s an à la carte menu alongside a buffet that, while not huge, is very well curated with high-quality options. The service here was excellent throughout, and being able to have breakfast on a terrace overlooking the Grand Canal is a rare experience that really elevates the mornings.
At this point, the stay ticks a lot of the boxes you would expect from a hotel of this level.
Where it could be even better
At the same time, there were a number of small inconsistencies that stood out, especially considering the price point. The St. Regis brand is known for its butler service, but that element was not really felt during our stay. Our butler never introduced themselves, and overall service lacked some of the proactive attention to detail you would expect at this level.
Some of the issues were minor on their own, but together they became noticeable. We had to request tea multiple times, even calling three separate times in the span of 1 hour to have it delivered. Once used, items were not always replaced consistently, which breaks the sense of seamless service you usually expect in a hotel like this.
Turndown service also felt quite minimal. In many luxury hotels, this is where you notice thoughtful details that make the stay feel special, whether it’s a small treat, a personalized touch, or simply a sense that someone has taken the time to prepare the room for the night. That aspect felt somewhat lacking here.
The gym is on the smaller side, which isn’t necessarily a negative in a city like Venice where space is limited. In fact, having a gym at all is already a plus. That said, the experience could be improved quite easily. Some of the equipment was missing accessories, and a few dumbbells were also unavailable. These are relatively simple fixes that would go a long way in making the space feel more complete and better aligned with the overall level of the hotel.
Finally, the spa experience was slightly limited by its opening hours. I personally wanted to use it after dinner, around 8pm, but it was already closed. I completely understand treatments not being available at that time, but having access to the sauna or basic wellness facilities a bit later into the evening would have been a nice addition.
Final thoughts
Overall, this is a beautiful and truly iconic property with a lot going for it. The location is exceptional, the setting is unmatched, and many aspects of the experience are genuinely very strong. While there are a few areas where the hotel could improve in terms of consistency and attention to detail, the overall experience remains highly enjoyable. There is simply nothing quite like The St. Regis Venice in the city. I would absolutely return and would confidently recommend it to our clients.
